United States
Приєднався 19 лис 2007
Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. The museum presents compelling perspectives on the impact of design on daily life through active educational and curatorial programming. It is the mission of Cooper Hewitt's staff and Board of Trustees to advance the public understanding of design across the twenty-four centuries of human creativity represented by the museum's collection.
Cooper Hewitt was founded in 1897 by Amy, Eleanor, and Sarah Hewitt-granddaughters of industrialist Peter Cooper-as part of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. A branch of the Smithsonian since 1967, Cooper-Hewitt is housed in the landmark Andrew Carnegie Mansion on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The campus also includes two historic townhouses renovated with state-of-the-art conservation technology and a unique terrace and garden.

How Do We Acquire? A Curator's Perspective
What does it mean to be a design museum today? Matilda McQuaid, Cooper Hewitt’s acting director of curatorial, discusses how museum’s acquisition process shapes our collection to better reflect current issues and design's evolving role in daily interactions. Over 150 recently acquired objects are currently on view in our latest exhibition "Acquired! Shaping the National Design Collection,” including objects that represent the museum's collecting legacy, as well as works brought into the collection since 2017.

IDEATION WITH ES DEVLIN
Переглядів 2873 місяці тому
Es Devlin begins each project with a blank sheet of paper. She might respond to a song lyric or a line from a poem as she starts to sketch. She informs her ideas by devouring books, theater, art, music, and poetry-the work of others is a great influence. As she shares, “An idea is only ever part of a continuum of thought.” She iterates to explore, refine, and tweak ideas. Revisions clarify an i...
CREATIVE COLLABORATION WITH ES DEVLIN
Переглядів 3764 місяці тому
While Devlin’s collaborations often have an end goal in mind, much of the richness of working with others comes from the places you explore together along the way-the dead ends, the abandoned ideas, the miscommunications, the fresh starts. Working with someone offers a chance to consider new ways of thinking, and that exchange can inspire new directions for creative work. AN ATLAS OF ES DEVLIN ...
TEXTS WITH ES DEVLIN
Переглядів 2585 місяців тому
For Es Devlin, the act of reading is central to her process for translating plays, operas, or song lyrics to stage designs or stadium tours. While reading, she underlines important passages and makes sketches in the margins of books. She returns to these notes as she considers the form of a stage sculpture or the narrative journey through an installation. AN ATLAS OF ES DEVLIN ON VIEW THROUGH A...
DRAWING WITH ES DEVLIN
Переглядів 6425 місяців тому
Drawing is essential to Es Devlin’s creative practice. She draws every day, making quick, rough sketches and longer, more detailed studies. Her thousands of drawings capture the seeds of imagined ideas for stage designs and sculptural installations. But drawing also helps Devlin to study and relate to the world around her. When we draw from life, our hands and eyes connect, providing a differen...
A CREATIVE LIFE WITH ES DEVLIN
Переглядів 6476 місяців тому
Devlin’s creative life began in childhood. Like many of us, she made things to entertain herself. She built dioramas and staged plays with her siblings, holding candy wrappers against a projector’s light in order to wash the room in different colors. She both studied and created art. An avid reader, she loved to mark in her books. She also learned to play the piano, violin, and clarinet. During...

Centering Disability in Design
Переглядів 1378 місяців тому
What does it look like when disabled people are viewed not as edge cases or afterthoughts in the design process, but as the default users? What happens when, instead of flattening disability into an indistinguishable group of “all abilities,” we understand and design for the unique and varied experiences of disabled people? How can we prioritize, honor, and celebrate disability in our design pr...

so interesting....
True Detective and True Blood intros
As cool as Matilda McQuaid is, we don’t really need to see her face talking for 4 minutes when we could be seeing images of the exhibition and the objects in it. I mean, honestly… 🙄
Poorly edited.
How can you attached this purse on a belt ?

Are there anymore of these tests Like with Reds dream or Tin Toy or Knick Knack?
Anyone know why the intro to "High Plains Hardware" (S1 E3) is a little different? As far as I can tell, it's the only episode where the music is altered. I actually like it better.
i have the problem with the handle how to fix it sir?
Got to see the exhibition today and was blown away. That such an artistic powerhouse isn't a household name is nothing short of a crime! Thank you for introducing me to her work, and thank you Cooper Hewitt curatorial and Es for making such a fantastic exhibit!

Thank you so much for posting and sharing your knowledge of these purses. I read your book "The Miser's Purse and found it to be fascinating. I have miser's purse that is made of silver chainmail and has three sliding rings but the middle is a silver braided handle and appears to be soldered on the ring and has two silver square sliders to adjust for the wrist. I've tried finding information on it but each person I've contacted know's nothing about it. I was told not to clean it though I'd like to so as to keep it maintained and not take away the patina. The people at my local antique store were about as intrigued with it as I was when I acquired it as they had their phones out and taking pictures. I'm happy to share pictures if you'd like. I've just never seen anything quite like it other than a more modern chainmail miser's purse on the Regency purse museum website, I tried to contact the owner but there was no answer to my email. Thanks again for a wonderful book and ease of understanding these purses with this video.
Hello mother it me sadat
I'm a hewett from New zealand. And can't seem to go to far back in family tree. I do know my grandfather took his family to the states in the 50s. I have footage of it on a USB stick. Strangely there were two pilots in nz that went by the same name at the same time
sounds like a good thief promoted
Thank you so very much.... We have studied under Abraham Park (s. Korea) until his passing, and he taught us that the genealogies of Joktan are the same . They condensed so much into one name each generation that when you open up their meaning and apply the events of that time it creates a living history that defines the Time and Hope of the people.

From the dusty mason~ I know it's not like that. For the Agatha! The ORDER!!
Still watching in 2024 🗿
Love the TD season 1 music. ❤ Sad as the story was, will always love the whole season.
It's of 1996
I imagine working in that lab would be a dream job...
In my opinion, the opening theme and its imageries capture the true heart of the impoverished Americans. Desperation mixed with blind faith. There are 2 sides to America. The high and mighty Captains of the World and the abandoned and forgotten blue collar workers which built country for decades before America transitioned to a service based economy.
Watching hier from Brasil 🇧🇷
Uma das melhores séries de televisão que eu tive o prazer de assistir. Conheci há pouco mais de um mês e assisti 3 vezes já, inclusive recomendei pra minha mãe que adorou! Isso é uma obra-prima
Fantastic designer, excellent interview. Thank you for sharing!
What do you expect after 14 years of a Tory government? If I was him though I’d be careful during mating season 😅
everytime I watch this intro feels like the first time, it's so good that I just can't get enough of it
What if they continued the other seasons with the same actors and theme of these, would be amazing. Season 1 its a completely on another level another different tv show paragoned to the other seasons
